Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Navigation information services for blind people are inevitable when they travel in unfamiliar places. In this report, we consider navigation messages by two experiments for certain travel path with the use of devices called Teku-teku radio®. We first conduct a travel experiment with a congenital blind person, and build a navigation message for each Teku-teku radio® that is located along the walk paths. In each message, we use ordinary words for spatial features that are easy to perceive by auditory and other channels, and not by visual channel. We, then, conduct the other experiment with another blind person to evaluate navigation messages and the navigation system. We discuss the experimental results for navigation messages from the effectiveness point of view, and also point out certain method for keeping the usefulness of the message for blind people those who do not have, in advance, much information about spatial features along their travel route
