Object Recognition based on Canonical Angles between Shape Subspaces and Its Application for Personal Identification

(in English) This paper proposes a method to measure the similarity between two sets of feature point using shape subspace produced by factorization method.
We will establish the similarity by measuring the geometrical relation between two shape subspaces with canonical angles. The shape subspace is invariant to the camera rotation and object motion, thus the similarity is invariant also to them. However, it does not work well for even two shape subspaces, which is derived from a same object, since they are not coincident when feature points are not uniquely matched between two feature point sets. To solve this correspondence problem, we will introduce a method to sort the order of feature points based on comparing the orthogonal projection matrices of the shape subspaces. The validity of the proposed method has been demonstrated through the experiments with face recognition.
