Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) This report investigates a channel estimation method employing Zadoff-Chu sequences as preambles for a MIMO-OFDM mobile downlink system. In the system, the base station performs the minimum BER-based precoding whereas the mobile station employs the maximum likelihood detector with spatial filters to suppress co-channel interference. The system requires information on a covariance matrix of both co-channel interference and noise, so as to control the spatial filters for suppressing the co-channel interference. A conventional estimation method of the covariance matrix estimates weight coefficients of spatio-temporal filters, and then calculates the covariance matrix from the estimated weight coefficients. The estimation accuracy of this method, however, is not sufficient enough to maintain excellent transmission performance. To cope with such a problem, the proposed scheme employs Zadoff-Chu sequences as preambles of both desired and interfering base stations, and calculates the covariance matrix from channel impulse responses that are estimated using the preamble of the interfering base station. Furthermore, this report studies another method that can estimate the channel impulse responses of the interfering base station without information on its preamble. Computer simulations demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms the conventional one, and that differences in the BER performance between the proposed and ideal channel estimation methods are negligible.
