A cavity-resonator-integrated grating input/output coupler (CRIGIC) with Au reflection layer on the substrate was proposed for high-efficiency small-aperture vertical coupling of a free-space wave from/to a guided wave. The effects and fabrication technique of the Au layer introduction were investigated theoretically and experimentally. CRIGICs of 5 and 20 m apertures were designed and fabricated. The effect of Au reflection was confirmed. The wavelength dependences of the coupling efficiencies were measured, and the operation principle was demonstrated. |
