Tin plated contacts are widely used for common electrical contact due to the inexpensive and reliability. On the other hand, because of soft tin plating, the contact failure is sometimes occurred due to the abrasion of tin plating by insertion-withdraw process or fretting corrosion caused by vibration or heat cycle.
Therefore in this study, the wear phenomenon in sliding of one direction for tin plating hemisphere-plat contact, which is basic process of fretting, is observed in order to clarify the wear process of fretting. As a result, the wear process which is different from general wear process is observed. First, the friction coefficient of tin plating is influenced by the loads. The second is that lower load is faster wear. According from the FEM contact analysis and the wear theory of Mindlin, it is considered the special behavior in case of the soft metal film on hard metal and hemispherical-plane contact. |
