Evaluation of packet transmission latency in IEEE 802.16j relay networks

(in English) We have proposed an assignment algorithm of time slots for wireless links to reduce the transmission latency between user stations and gateway nodes in IEEE 802.16j wireless relay networks.
The proposed algorithm is based on the existing method that aims better network throughput
and small frame length, and it changes the order
of time slot assignment to decrease the transmission latency without increasing the frame length.
We have evaluated the performance of the proposed method in terms of scheduling delay which is determined by the result of time slot assignment.
However, we did not examine the proposed method in high-load situations where queueing delay can not be ignored. Furthermore, the previous work only focused on the downward transmissions.
In this report, we evaluate the performance of the proposed method, focusing on the effect of the packet generation rate of the network.
We also evaluate the latency in both of downward and upward transmissions.
Performance evaluations are conducted through both of simulation experiments and numerical calculation and we confirm that the proposed algorithm can decrease the transmission latency by up to 25% in downward transmission and up to 20% in upward transmission compared with the random assignment algorithm in IEEE 802.16j in case of high traffic load.
