Information rates of PSK signal transmission in a system including all-optical amplitude limiters

(in English) In this report, we theoretically evaluate information rates (IRs) for RZ-QPSK-signal transmission in a system where phase-preserving all-optical amplitude limiters are periodically inserted. Large IRs are achieved owing to the reduction of the nonlinear phase noise by the limiter when signal pulses are temporally isolated at the limiter. When the pulses are launched to the limiter after being broadened by the dispersion, which causes inter-symbol interference (ISI), the nonlinearity in the limiter induces pulse distortion. The IR can be kept large, however, when the effect of ISI is not large. This indicates that the nonlinear ISI induced in the limiter can be restored to some extent by suitable signal processing such as maximum likelihood sequence estimation at the receiver.
