An Analysis on Simultaneous Paging for Home Appliances using ZigBee

(in English) A simultaneous paging method for home appliances is proposed to monitor and maintain the appliances remotely with ZigBee networks. Many appliances are assumed to be paged simultaneously, where it may take time to complete the paging because of network congestion. In the proposed method the EndNodes of ZigBee network are controlled to make their responses to the Cordinator node at different timing specified by modified radom backoffs. A simulation result of the method to modify the backoff timing indicates that the required time to complete the paging of 20 home appliances is improved from 218 msec to 145 msec compared with the exisiting method without modifying the random backoff timing under the condition that more than 90% of response packets should be successfully received by the Cordinator node over clean wireless links.
