Study of Pre-detection based Complexity Reduction Methods for Single-Carrier Transmission using 2-step QRM-ML Block Signal Detection

(in English) A maximum likelihood block signal detection using QR decomposition and M-algorithm (QRM-MLBD) can significantly improve the bit error rate (BER) performance of single-carrier (SC) transmission compared to the minimum mean square error frequency-domain equalization (MMSE-FDE) in a frequency-selective channel. However, the computational complexity of QRM-MLBD is still much higher than that of MMSE-FDE. In order to reduce the computational complexity of QRM-MLBD, recently, we proposed a 2-step QRM-MLBD which simplifies the tree structure of MLD utilizing the pre-detection results obtained by MMSE-FDE. In this paper, for further complexity reduction, we propose the complexity reduction method for QR decomposition and the detection ordering to reduce the number of surviving paths in the M-algorithm. We evaluate, by computer simulation, computational complexity and show an advantage of the proposed methods.
