Broadband Power-line Communication (PLC) based Local Area Networks (LAN) in ships are
one of the promising applications of the PLC technology.
It is a feature of power-line channels in cargo ships, which are the target of this paper, that the amount of the signal attenuation is larger than that in homes.
It is the main reason of the attenuation that there are a lot of circuits in distribution panels.
Then, the amount of attenuation per circuit has been estimated in this paper, and it is described that the reduction of the number of circuits was the most effective improvement method.
The next effective method was to change the insulating material of power-line cables to the lower attenuation one.
Moreover, it has been described that the impedance matching at the end of cables might be effective in the improvement of throughput performance, though it doesn't contribute to reduce the amount of the signal attenuation. |
