| (in English) | We present a body-schema-based framework for mental transformations of objects. It builds on the concept of reference frames and their transformations. First, by using simultaneous fMRI and EEG, we show that a parietal-premotor network is recruited to perform mental rotation of an object. Next, we show that mental rotation of an object is likely to involve transformations of an observer's egocentric reference frame. We further demonstrate that active exploration of 3-D object views contributes to the learning of transformations of reference frames. We then propose an inferotemporal cortex model of object recognition, and discuss its relation to mental rotation. Finally, we introduce a novel technique for reconstruction of the cortical EEG activity through the fusion of fMRI and EEG data. | |
