Improvement of Fiber Optical Gyroscope performance by dynamic compensation against thermal fluctuation

(in English) This paper proposes a novel method to improve a performance of Fiber Optical Gyroscopes (FOGs) for attitude sensor on a satellite with temperature fluctuation. Temperature control for the FOG was carried out at Reimei (Japanese small satellite launched in 2005) and the FOG long term performance was improved. However the FOG short term performance was disturbed. This is because thermal input by temperature control induced Shupe Effect. In addition to this effect, temperature control is a burden for a satellite in terms of power consumption.
This paper describes how to improve the FOG performance without temperature control. We consider the dynamic FOG bias rate model with respect to temperature fluctuation and identify this model using system identification analysis. As a result, dynamic FOG bias rate model is identified accurately and the FOG bias rate response with respect to temperature fluctuation is estimated correctly. By subtracting estimated FOG bias rate response from the FOG output, the FOG performance is improved against temperature fluctuation.
