It has been known that visual features of an object is processed separately in the early level of visual information processing and then integrated. It is an unsolved problem how the combination of features of an object is stored in memory. Are the features integrated into a single unit or connected by network step by step in memory? We approached the problem with stimulus-response association task using items comprising color, shape, and motion. Learning stimulus-response association with items comprising three features, a red triangle moving to the right, for example, was slower than that with items comprising two features, a red static triangle, for example, suggesting that attribute pairs are the basic memory units, directly associated with response. Result is explained with the model based on the attribute pair of shape and its color or motion. |
