With increasing data transmission capacity between the satellites, small and low power optical inter-satellite communication terminasl are required that communicates at Gbps level in satellite orbit. We have been developing next generation optical inter-satellite communication terminals based on coherent homodyne BPSK (Binary Phase Shift Keying) with a wavelength of 1.06 micron. This paper presented the designing and the experimental results of preliminary evaluation of the planar waveguide optical amplifier as a 1.06 micron optical amplifier that have a property of high efficiency, single-mode, very compact size, and high resistance to radiation. Maximum output peak power of 4.2-W with the corresponding electrical efficiency of 21% is demonstrated at the pump LD output power of 9.6-W (pulse duty factor is 10%),and the seed power of 70-mW. |
