[Invited Talk] Dynamics of microspheres suspension observed by dynamic ultrasound scattering
Tomohisa Norisuye (KIT) US2011-31
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) A dynamic ultrasound scattering technique is based on the auto-correlation function approach and bears some analogy with the well-established Dynamic Light Scattering method which is popular in the particle sizing for the nanometers-to-micrometers range. Dynamic sound scattering (DSS) method has the advantage of being applicable to highly turbid solutions, enabling us to investigate the position dependence of the particle dynamics. More recently, in addition to the conventional correlation-function approach, we have developed an imaging method utilizing scattering phase of ultrasound. This technique was applied to investigate the long-ranged hydrodynamic interactions of the microparticles accompanying swirls. Such dynamic structures are of academically and practically important, e.g., for sizing and dispersibility analysis of micron-particles. Recent topics on the dynamics of microspheres depending on the particle diameter, concentration and the cell size will be given in the presentation.
