Swept-wavelength tunable laser in liquid crystal film possessing helical order

(in English) Wavelength-swept lasing is demonstrated by using a cholesteric liquid crystal film dispersed with liquid crystal droplets. Field-emission scanning electron microscope observation revealed that a network of nano-pores with an average size of 10 nm is formed in the cholesteric liquid crystal film. By utilizing the fast local reorientation process in the nano-sized liquid crystal droplets, wavelength-swept lasing with a tuning speed of 400 Hz (2.5 ms periods) was achieved in the cholesteric liquid crystal film applied with sinusoidal electric field.
