We validate the usability of a simple sound spot generation technique based on simple summation of numerous signals using N channel loudspeakers. A speech signal added along with a high level white noise and appropriate delay is reproduced by each loudspeaker to be synchronized at a sweet spot. At the spot, the amplitude of a speech signal increases N times while that of a noise signal increases just square root N times on average. As a result, SNR at the only sweet spot increases square root N times and a speech signal is significantly improved so that it can be listened to at that point. Computer simulations were conducted assuming a linear array, a circular array and a surrounding 157-loudspeaker array to estimate SNR and Speech Intelligibility Index (SII). Results show that SNR and intelligibility effectively increase only at and near the sweet sopt. |
