Using printed circuit boards (PCBs), this report discusses the sample shape condition suitable for Standing-Wave Coaxial Tube Method which is a non-contact PIM measurement method.
To determine the condition, several conductive strips with different widths are evaluated in terms of excitation power and generated heat.
The result shows that narrower copper-strip with low power excitation is effective for SNR improvements and suppression of self-heat effects.
It is also shown that the edge-roughness of the copper strips affects the stability in the time response of the PIM measurements.
Although the effectiveness of PIM reduction is not clear in the case of the small roughness materials, it is confirmed clearly that small roughness of the bottom side of copper foils contributes to PIM reduction. |
