Evaluation of Basic Performance of GBAS Prototype Using Multi-Mode Receiver

(in English) Electronic Navigation Research Institute (ENRI) has been conducting research and development about Ground-Based Augmentation System (GBAS).
We designed and developed a GBAS prototype system by 2010, and installed at Kansai International Airport in late 2010.
So far, we have conducted long-term stability evaluation and flight evaluation.
But, by the tsunami disaster of our experimental aircraft in Sendai Airport, we could not conduct approach flight tests which was scheduled at the end of FY2010.
Therefore, in cooperation with Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), we conducted the basic performance evaluation of GBAS prototype using Multi-Mode Receiver (MMR, Rockwell Collins GLU-925) by JAXA's experimental aircraft (Dornier 228-202), from November 29th to December 1st, 2011.
During the flight experiment, we were able to get MMR data of 15 aprroaches.
As a result, the vertical positioning error in approach flight was about 1.5m (95% value).
In addition, the vertical positioning error at fixed point was approximately 1.3m (95% value).
These results are similar to the results of evaluation of GBAS test equipment had been installed in Sendai airport, meets the requirements of CAT-I.
