[Tutorial Invited Lecture] Tutorial overview of network virtualization R&D activities -- Toward future network architecture deployment --
Kohei Shiomoto (NTT) NS2011-161
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) TCP/IP protocol family, which has gone through incremental fixes and functional additions, is becoming huge and complicated. We thus anticipate that it will be difficult to satisfy requirements of future networks with today’s TCP/IP protocol family. Toward clean-slate network architecture, numerous research and development activities are underway in Japan, US, and Europe. Network virtualization is regarded as one of key enablers for clean-slate network architecture R&D activities. This article presents an overview of network virtualization approaches ranging from one intended for clean-slate control and management planes innovation to one for clean-slate control, management, and data -planes innovation.
