Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) An ultrasonic testing method to detect fatigue cracks in orthotropic steel deck is shown. In this method, shear waves propagating for critical angle are used, and adjustment of the incident angle is important since it is very sensitive to the refraction angle which effects on the testing results considerably. In this paper, adjustment technique of the incident angle using the amplitude of shear wave propagating along the surface of the test object is shown, and the validity of the technique is discussed by simulation. The amplitude of shear wave is calculated varying the incident angle. As a result, the incident angle when the amplitude becomes peak depends on the velocity of the test object. However, the refraction angle corresponding to the incident angle are almost constant, about 90 degrees. Therefore, the validity of the technique is verified.
