Estimation Method of Over-Reach Propagation of Terrestrial Digital Broadcastings using FM Radio Waves

(in English) From the view point of frequency use efficiency, the digital terrestrial TV broadcasting system utilizes same channels in neighboring prefectures. Therefore, it is important to quantitatively evaluate the over-reach propagation of the same channel TV waves. This study newly tried to estimate the over-reach propagation characteristics of the TV waves by use of FM radio waves. In this study, focusing on the propagation path from Yamaguchi to Hiroshima, the authors simultaneously observed analog TV waves before the end of services and FM radio waves, which were from almost same transmission sites, and compared these propagation characteristics. Observation results indicated that the propagation loss of the TV waves were fluctuated according to that of the FM radio waves. It was clarified that the propagation loss of TV broadcasting waves were estimated by a linear approximation of the propagation loss of FM radio waves.
