Ultra Wide-Band Radar Imaging Method of a Target with Arbitrary Motion with a Single Antenna using Indoor Multipath Echoes

(in English) UWB (ultra wide-band) pulse radar is promising for use in an indoor monitoring system to supplement the optical cameras and cover any weak points. However, conventional UWB radar imaging methods are costly
and impractical for this application because these methods require the systems to scan the antennas or to install a large number of antennas. This paper proposes a cost-effective UWB radar imaging method using indoor multipath echoes. The method uses a single antenna to estimate the target motion and the imaging range is expanded by applying the SEABED (shape estimation algorithm based on BST and extraction of directly scattered waves) imaging algorithm (where BST is the boundary scattering transform) to mirror image antennas formed by reflection from the walls. Numerical simulations show that the proposed method can accurately estimate the target shape under various conditions.
