Energy efficiency in communication networks has been an important issue recently since the total energy consumption of the networks has been rapidly increasing due to the growth of the Internet traffic. Dynamic lightpath establishment, which introduce optical cut-through, reduces IP packet processing at the intermediate nodes, then the total energy consumption of network can be reduced. When calculating a path, the energy consumption of optical regenerators, which are used at the intermediate nodes to guarantee the quality of optical signal, should be considered. This paper proposes a regenerator aware energy efficient routing in optical networks. It is based on the least weight path problem on the auxiliary graph that consists of an existing lightpath layer and new lightpath candidate layers. |
