Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) We propose a service mobility architecture enabling network service providers (NSPs) to switch a server to which user equipment (UE) is connected and to migrate corresponding session states for particular UE to any service mobility capable node in the network. A session state refers to a set of application specific data required for keeping communication (e.g., content ID), and connection related data (e.g., file descriptor, remote/local IP address, port number and socket option). The service mobility architecture enables the NSP to aggregate the servers because the UEs in one server are split into the other servers and the NSPs can turn off the server. The service mobility architecture is a novel communication paradigm and has the potential to offer the NSPs the powerful tools to achieve fine-gained service capacity control, energy saving, no disruption of communication and etc. Here, the key technology is session state migration which migrates the session states which a server maintains to the other servers. In this paper, we show the basic design of service mobility middleware which prepares virtual socket named “socket chain” in Linux. A set of experimental evaluation reveals that the average processing delay which the session migration affects is small enough for the real-time applications.
