Color opponent signal formation in horizontal cells of the goldfish retina

(in English) In non-mammalian vertebrates, tri-chromatic signals generated in cone photoreceptors are converted into color opponent signals in horizontal cells (HCs). The feedback from HCs to photoreceptors is responsible for this transformation. In the present study, based on the cascade network model by Stell and colleagues, we postulated a feedback model incorporating the proton feedback hypothesis and analyzed the generation of color opponent signals in HCs. Based on this hypothesis, feedback from HCs would be modulated by the cone membrane potential. Here we demonstrate that this modulation is an important factor for the reproduction of the spectral response profile of HCs in the goldfish retina.
