In order to evaluate arousal level in real-time, the characteristics of eyelid motion and saccadic eye movement while viewing a movie from a car-mounted view were investigated. Accumulative time(T1) of eyes closed for 30sec increased prior to feeling strong sleepiness. Average peak velocity and amplitude of saccade declined gradually before the time of T1. Our proposed method, which is based on the average peak velocity of saccade, could detect the oncoming sleepiness prior to T1. These results suggest that eyelid motion and saccade could be available for gradual evaluation of arousal level. |
