A Study on Nonlinear Equalization for Constant Envelop Modulation Receiver Affected by Quantization Error
Kohei Kotera, Osamu Muta, Hiroshi Furukawa (Kyushu Univ.) RCS2012-4
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The authors have proposed constant envelope modulation (CEM) systems with a low resolution ADC.
The proposed CEM system can use a power-efficient nonlinear power amplifier on the transmitter side.
Moreover, power consumption at the analog devices is effectively reduced by employing a low resolution ADC.
However, the received signal is seriously affected by severe quantization error by a low resolution ADC. As a solution to performance
degradation at the CEM receiver affected by quantization error, nonlinear equalization (VE: Viterbi Equalization) that estimates quantization error is applied in CEM system. In this paper, we propose efficient VE that estimates quantization error at baseband, where quantization error is estimated by using a simple function.
The proposed VE improves BER performance of CEM seriously affected by quantization error, while computational complexity of equalization is effectively reduced.
