Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In recent years, people are concerned more with the visual communication that centered on the video media. Reflecting their concern, several studies have tried to generate the animation from the story text automatically. The researchers, however, devoted little attention to comprehensibility of the generated animation. The present study proposed the mechanisms that can derive the linguistic cues from the simple story text on the basis of the narrative comprehension model and apply them to the event-driven composition rules to generate the comprehensible animation for viewers. First of all, the fundamental linguistic information, which are relevant to five dimensions such as time, space, characters, objects, and action/state that constitute the situation model, are derived from each sentence. Next, the stage is segmented by each shift of time and/or space information. Moreover, under each stage, the scene is segmented by each shift of character information that is accompanied by entrance and exit of characters. The fundamental linguistic information involved in each scene gives the linguistic information to make up a series of shots. The shot composition information for imaging is basically derived from the event-driven composition rules to which character information, action information, and last shot composition information apply. The event-driven composition rules were produced on the basis of the shot analysis of tow films. Finally, the derived information is converted to TVML which TVML player transforms into the animation.
