Nonlinear Oscillation of Micro Droplet part 2
Tatsuya Yamada, Keiji Sakai (IIS, Univ. Tokyo) US2012-10
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Micro droplets in the air have normal modes of oscillation driven by surface tension. For an infinitely small amplitude oscillation with small viscosity, we can measure surface tension and viscosity of liquids by observing the frequency and the damping rate. In an actual oscillation with finite amplitude, the frequency is shifted by a nonlinear effect. We observed a large-amplitude oscillation of micro droplet emitted by inkjet, and analyzed the change of frequency shift with the amplitude. Besides, we observed an oscillation of surfactant solution droplet, and examined the influence of surface absorption of molecules on the nonlinear effect.
