We successfully demonstrated a simple dual-loop optoelectronic oscillator (OEO) using a direct modulation of a
multi-electrode distributed feedback (DFB) semiconductor laser. Using the laser, dual-loop OEO with highly suppressed
spurious tones was realized without any additional sophisticated optical device or loop configuration. An X-band OEO signal
generated by the proposed device and loop configuration exhibits a highly-suppressed spurious tones (>40dB) compared with a
single-loop approach.
