We propose a method of improving the isolation in a small integrated diversity antenna using dipole and monopole modes. In the dipole mode, a dipole set apart from a ground plane (GND) is excited. In the monopole mode, the GND of the feed line through which the dipole is fed and the dipole act as a monopole antenna. We show that the isolation is improved by putting a slot on the GND symmetrically for excitation of the monopole mode, compared with an asymmetrical configuration. Also, the bandwidth of the monopole mode increases as the length of the slot approaches a quarter wavelength. We confirm that the isolation between two modes is 79 dB and the correlation coefficient is less than 0.001 by performing simulations. |
