In this paper, we compare the efficiency of normalization process for HOG features. HOG feature is one of shape-based features developed for human detection in images by machine learning. For human detection by machine learning, HOG feature shows high detection rate, and is used very often compared to other features. HOG feature divides an image into domains called cells, and represents the rough shape of objects by computing luminous gradient directions and their intensities in the cells. Each normalization processing is performed in a local region called a block composed of a number of cells. Owing to the normalization, HOG features become robust against geometry changes and local illumination changes. However, by performing normalization processing, calculation of features consumes huge processing time. In this study, we compared the detection rate of HOG feature by changing the size and form of blocks for normalization. The performance of human detection was improved compared to an ordinary normalization process. |
