Real time SAR processing has been a challenge due to the size of data and its computational load. In this work we address the problem of accelerating SPECAN algorithm for real time synthetic aperture radar (SAR) signal processing using commodity of the shelf computer with medium GPU system. This paper presents a preliminary work to design parallel SPECAN algorithm and its implementation using CUDA GPU. Our approach supports real time processing of SAR echo pulses to two-dimensional image. We pointed out strategies to minimize host-device the data transfer, avoiding bottleneck while trying to get higher throughput. For experiment we use NVidia Quadro FX 3800 GPU with 1 GB global memory and 192 cores to process a raw JERS-1 SAR signal with 6144x19904 pulse point. Our design showed better latency over single thread implementation of this algorithm. |
