Average BLER Performance of Star 32QAM Schemes Using Frequency Domain Equalizer by Link-Level Simulation for DFT-Precoded OFDMA

(in English) This paper investigates the average block error rate (BLER) performance of Star 32QAM schemes employing a frequency domain equalizer (FDE) by link-level simulation for discrete Fourier transform (DFT)-precoded orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA). The Star 32QAM scheme decreases peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) compared to Cross 32QAM scheme. The feature of the paper is that we focus on the actual received signal-to-noise power ratio (SNR) taking into account a realistic PAPR measure called the cubic metric (CM) considering the non-linearity of the power amplifier. Link-level computer simulation results show that the Star 32QAM scheme with independent bit mapping for the phase and amplitude modulations achieves a lower required average received SNR considering the CM compared to that with the maximum Euclidian distance in inner ring but with composite mapping of the phase and amplitude modulations. We also show that the (8, 8, 8, 8) Star 32QAM decreases the required average received SNR considering the CM at the average BLER of 10-2 by approximately 0.8 dB compared to the Cross 32QAM scheme.
