Ultra Wide Band (UWB) system is a wireless communication system for high speed data transmission using a huge bandwidth. We assume that the UWB system shares the occupied band with the other primary wireless communication systems. In order that the UWB system uses the huge band, it is necessary for the UWB system to detect the existence of the primary systems and to avoid an interference in the primary system. One of detection technologies of the UWB system is an energy detection technique which detects the primary system by comparing the observed signal energy with a threshold. However, it is difficult to find a suitable threshold of the conventional energy detection technique. In this paper, we propose a new detection scheme for Multi-Band OFDM system. The proposed scheme detects the primary system by estimating the primary signal energy and the variance of the additive noise based on Maximum Likelihood criterion. Moreover, it uses Akaike Information Criterion in order to select the optimum primary signal model out of the assumed models. By computer simulations, we evaluate the proposed method in practical situation of the primary system. |
