The EMC product standard of electrically powered wheelchairs, ISO 7176-21, requires the charged frame ESD immunity test. When a driving wheelchair is charged by triboelectrication, and its metallic part comes into contact with a surrounding grounded metal object, electromagnetic noise generated by the sharp discharge may cause the wheelchair to malfunction. As the IEC 61000-4 series does not deal with immunity testing that simulates this kind of ESD event, ISO 7176-21 independently provides for the test method. Personal care robots are expected as a solution to aging population and labor shortage problems. However, since operating robots in the human living space introduces risks not associated with other products, the standardization of their safety is required. Personal care robots are equipped with batteries for travelling, as are electrically powered wheelchairs. Introduction of a charged frame ESD test should be considered to ensure the safety of personal care robots. As the rst report of studies on ESD immunity test methods for personal care robots, the test procedure for the charged frame model specied in ISO 7176-21 is researched, and the pertinence of the specication of charging the EUT with a discharge gun is experimentally examined. |
