Evaluation of Propagation Loss Difference between the 5.8GHz and 700MHz bands in V2V Environments

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The 700MHz band is newly allocated as the radio spectrum to the wireless communications of ITS(Intelligent Transport System). In the 700MHz band, which is the lower frequency than the existing 5.8GHz band, service area can be ensured owing to the decrease of the diffraction loss, particularly in NLOS (Non Line-of-Sight) environments. In this paper, assuming a V2V (Vehicle to vehicle) communication environment over intersections where the situation is a typical NLOS environment, the propagation loss difference between the 5.8GHz and 700MHz bands is evaluated. We analyze the difference theoretically using a ray-tracing method. Furthermore, the experimental results obtained in the field experiments are shown. A comparative evaluation of these results is also discussed.
