Asynchronous Cellular Automata Based Hair Cell Models and their Fundamental Characteristics

(in English) In the mammalian inner ear, the basilar membrane vibrates in response to a sound wave and the inner hair cells transform the mechanical vibrations into electric potentials. The basilar membrane has a variety of nonlinear band-pass function for each partition. It is suggested that this nonlinearity is produced by the expansion and contraction movements of the outer hair cells. In this paper, we present a hair cell model (cochlear partition model) which is coupling system of an inner hair cell model and an outer hair cell model using asynchronous cellular automata. Based on numerical simulations, we show that the model can reproduce nonlinear band-pass function by combining the outer hair cell model and half-wave rectification function at the same time.
