Flexible optical networks which can allocate flexibly spectrum slot width is a promising network architecture to handle massive and dynamic data traffic. In flexible optical networks, spectrum defragmentation is indispensable to improve the network utilization efficiency. We experimentally demonstrated continuous and hitless wavelength sweep using real-time digital coherent receivers for spectrum defragmentation without service disruption. The network simulations of blocking performance and its dependence on wavelength sweep speed confirmed the feasibility of spectrum defragmentation. |
