Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In order to reduce energy wastefully consumed by access point (APs) in wireless LAN, we have proposed Radio-On-Demand Networks (ROD) which offers wireless access only when and where it is needed in an on-demand manner. Each AP in ROD is equipped with a wake-up receiver, which transits a state of AP from sleep to active by receiving a wake-up signal from a station (STA). However, if there are several APs having the same wake-up ID around the STA, a wake-up request from STA causes more than one AP to wake up though STA needs only a single AP. In this paper, in order to reduce the number of APs wastefully woken up in such a situation, we propose a new probability-based wake-up mechanism adapting to user (STA) distribution. The proposed mechanism exploits the information on the receiving signal strength of wake-up signal, the history of effective wake-up, and the number of retransmissions of wake-up signal for deciding the wake-up probability of each AP. By computer simulation, we confirm the basic operation of proposed mechanism, and evaluate its performance with a practical model of AP distribution.
