Multipath-Multicast File Transfer in an OpenFlow Network
Yoshiaki Tsukiji, Akira Nagata, Masato Tsuru (Kyushu Inst. of Tech.) CQ2012-83
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The rapid penetration of cloud computing is causing large file
transfers among distributed data centers and suffering from increased
transmission times. In this paper, we propose multipath-multicast file
transfer to reduce transmission times of one to many file transfers
in, e.g., distributed data cache or backup.
It aims at (i) fully utilizing possible network bandwidth by transmitting
segments of a file simultaneously on multiple paths, and (ii) reducing
necessary bandwidth in delivering a file to multiple receivers by
multicasting the data.
Based on max-flow problem, a scheme of segmenting a file and
scheduling multiple multicasts is preliminarily implemented on an
OpenFlow network, which demonstrates the feasibility of
multipath-multicast file transfer.
