[Invited Talk] Fabrication and Analysis of Organic LEDs and Solar Cells

(in English) 1) On bulk heterojunction organic solar cells (BHJ OSCs), it is found that thermal annealing treatment is an easy and inexpensive way to improve power conversion efficiency (PCE). To reveal the origin of the increase in PCE, we have investigated the change in the donor–acceptor structure at different hierarchical levels during thermal annealing in BHJ OSCs, consisting of regioregular poly(3-alkylthiophene-2,5-diyl) (rrP3AT) with different side-chains and PC61BM, using solid-state NMR. A clear relationship was found between the donor–acceptor structure and the PCE of the rrP3AT/PC61BM OSC systems. 2) Normally, internal electroluminescence quantum efficiency of fluorescent organic LEDs (OLEDs) is limited to 25 % at a maximum. Thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) is one of the candidates to overcome the limit by enabling the T1→S1 intersystem crossing even at room temperature. In this study, we designed and synthesized a novel TADF material. Very high quantum efficiency was obtained by OLEDs using this new TADF material.
