(in English) An InP modulator with linear accelerator type tiny in-line centipede electrode structure is consisted of multiple short rails of electrode, which are aligned and individually driven by multi-port output driver with independently controlled delay along with the optical propagation delay. Each of the rails contains sufficiently low junction capacitance to be driven by CMOS based driver, which results in low-power operation. In the operation, the combination of the output signals can be modified so as to generate arbitrary waveform, however, there is a tradeoff between the resolution and power consumption, therefore, the configuration of the driver needs to be optimized according to the desired property. This paper proposes the methodology of using combination of voltage-mode DAC and thermometer-code drivers to achieve modulation with feasible resolution, while maintaining appropriate power consumption.
