Power Loss Analysis of Tapped-Inductor Buck Converter
Takahiro Urabe, Kimihiro Nishijima, Terukazu Sato, Takashi Nabeshima (Oita Univ.) EE2013-25
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) This paper shows a power loss analysis of a proposed tapped-inductor buck converter with considering the leakage inductance of tapped-inductor. In this analysis, there are four kinds of the power losses including the conduction losses drive losses of the MOSFET, the forward voltage loss of the body diode in synchronous rectifier switch and the core loss of the tapped-inductor. The analysis result of proposed circuit is compared with that of a laboratory prototype of a coin size (34mm/26mm/5mm) with DC 48V input to 1.2V/30A output. As a result, about 90% efficiency under middle and heavy load region can be achieved on the analysis and experimentation.
