A Study on Optical Bandwidth Reduction for Future Radio Access and Mobile Optical Network

(in English) There has been a significant growth in mobile traffic over the past few years with the introduction of smart phones on which many kinds of applications operate. According to recent forecasts, mobile data traffic is expected to grow beyond 500 times in ten years (2010-2020). Mobile network operators are required to develop a mobile access network which tolerates the traffic growth and arrival of a new service. This paper proposes an optical digital transmission method for baseband radio signal transmission which can reduce the mean optical transmission rate according to traffic volume.
