Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Because of low power consumption and small footprint, avalanche photo diodes (APD) have been commonly applied to photon detection. Recently, high speed quantum communication has been demonstrated for high bit-rate quantum key distribution. For the high speed quantum communication, photon detectors should operate at GHz-clock frequencies. The GHz-clock operation of an InGaAs-APD photon detector has been demonstrated with sinusoidal wave gating. The sinusoidal wave appearing in the output is removed by sharp band-rejection filters. However, the use of filters limits the operating frequency. Moreover, filter design is difficult to realize sharp rejection with a small volume filter. And balanced single photon detector using two APDs operated low noise high detection efficiencies. However balanced single photon detectors were operated only MHz-clock frequencies, and it is not clear whether detectors operate GHz-clock frequencies. We report balanced single photon detector operated GHz-clock. This circuit removes the filter which limits the operating frequency. We demonstrated operating 1.060GHz frequencies using NR8300FP-C.C, and confirmed the residual amplitude is less than 30mV nad avalanche signal is more than 100mV. Therefore, this circuit can be obtained good suppression of the spikes.
