A Study on Adaptive LLR Quantization for Decode-Quantize-Forward Relaying

(in English) This paper proposes a novel two hop relaying strategy which adaptively quantizes extrinsic log likelihood ratio (LLR) according to Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) of the first hop.
In decode-demodulate-and-forward (DDF) relaying, the bit stream containing some errors is forwarded to the destination when it is subject to low SNR in the first hop transmission.
Due to the bit flipped stream from original message, an error floor one bit error rate (BER) performance appears at the destination node, even in the situation where the errorless transmission over the second hop links.
We focus on the fact that it is capable of mitigating the error floor with the assistance of extrinsic LLR of channel decoder outputs at the relay node.
However, huge amount of wireless resources are occupied to forward the LLR to the destination node.
To address this issue quantized LLR is conveyed.
A primary contribution of this paper is a methodology to adaptively quantize the LLR according to statistical properties of the LLR obtained over the first broadcast transmission, which is referred to as decode-adaptive quantize-and-forward (DAQF) relaying.
We confirm that the validity of DAQF compared to two hop DDF method by computer simulations.
