Use of Antenna Array in Sensing

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In this report, we introduce a sensing system for activity recognition and localization using an antenna array, referred to as array sensor. The array sensor uses signal eigenvectors and its eigenvalues obtained from the antenna array that span the signal subspace as radio wave features. The signal eigenvectors and corresponding eigenvalues are robust to noise compared to other metrics such as received signal strength (RSS) since they are orthogonal to the noise subspace. The array sensor can be used to estimate activities and locations of humans using machine learning. The array sensor has potential applications such as intruder detection, elderly monitoring and localization, because it does not require persons being monitored to wear any sensors.
