We have developed a planar microstrip-to-waveguide transition on a single-layer substrate in the millimeter-wave band. Via holes surround a rectangular waveguide to prevent leakage of parallel plate mode in a substrate. However, an additional process to form a number of via holes increases production cost. Manufacturing error of via-hole position increases insertion loss of the transition. Then, we have proposed a choke structure to replace from via-hole arrangement. We designed via-less planar microstrip-to-waveguide transition with choke structure and no via holes. The simulated performance is presented in this paper. |
